Race the Ridge 2011

Post by RyanC »

I know it seems early but the Ridge is a mother of a stage race with more than enough on-the-rivet action to keep sufferfest addicts happy. I have a personal grudge with this event having been dropped on Rolley Crescent 1/3 of the way through the road race a few years back. Mercifully, they have dropped that leg of the climb this year but there remain both the killer 268th ave grunt (400m at 12%) and the deceptively selective rise from 100th - 102nd aves. I think this should be a key team event. It is definitely an over-nighter, possibly for both days as the Saturday TT in Golden Ears starts at 8:15 (which tells me sign on closes around 7:45). Although there doesn't appear to be an Accent Inn near Maple Ridge, we may be able to get a suitable alternative group discount if we book early enough.

Who's in?

I'm 95% go right now.

I agree, this should be a target team event.

I'm in, but I won't do the TT so I'd like to go over on Saturday afternoon. The Cat 3/4 Men's criterium starts at 5:00.

It says on the local ride page it a cumulative time stage race and you must start every event.

Not sure if that means you must start every event in order to be given any awards, or you MUST start every event.

Just mapped the TT course on bikely. It's not flat. Road bike with clip ons would probably be more than adequate.

Just checked my schedule, I'm in for the set.
The day I quit is the day I die, and probably not even then.

If we book 2 rooms at the MR Travelodge for two nights, we can get pretty decent accommodation for $90 each, incl taxes. If we can drag Adam along, we can get the child rate for him (17 & under) 8)

http://www.travelodge.com/Travelodge/co ... e&tab=tab2

Not sure about kitchenette rates but that would be an asset we can look into and as it's edge season for tourism, maybe we can negotiate the same rate.

EDIT: by the way, register via Karelo for the stage race before midnight today to save $10.

About the Golden Ears TT course... You might want to get some TT practice on the Nanaimo River Road course. The NRR course is similarly hilly: climbing on the way out and on the way back, and then a very fast (70kph +) downhill to the finish. A TT bike is better on both courses, especially with the downhill. There are 3 Thursday night NRR TTs before Race the Ridge (=> bikeracing.ca). I would like to borrow someone's aero wheels for this event if anyone's willing. There's beer and respect (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) in it for you.

BTW, the MR Travelodge manager says she will cut us the same discount we got for Roubaix.

BTW, they would be used for the TT, not the crit, if that makes difference.

Was thinking about it, but it's the same weekend as Windsor Park.

I was also thinking about Capital Stage Race in Olympia or Wenatchee Stage Race. Depends how Walla Walla goes.

I count four of us in. That's either one cozy but cheap room or two separate. I am okay paying extra for the space but I am planning to book a double at the Travelodge next week. We can get this for $77/room/night, taxes incl, 2 persons occupancy. Any other interest going over?

Just registered for the race online today. This afternoon I am also booking a room for two nights at the Maple Ridge Travelodge. Call 604-467-1511 and ask for Tammy, the manager, if you want to beat the online booking price.

So is anybody else going to go do this race?

So far I think we have me, Peter, Ryan, Shawn, Adam and Dylan.
Is that right? Are all you guys confirmed?
Anyone else?

I'm confirmed.

I'm not sure how the accommodations are supposed to work, but is anyone interested in splitting a room for the two nights?

Here's an FYI for those coming over: at Roubaix, Josh and I learned that the local restaurants seem to open too late in the morning to be useful for pre-race meals. Even though the hotel's 'continental breakfast' is an option, it is a complement to another full meal rather than sufficient by itself. You will be happier if you bring plenty of food over Friday.
