Post by Josh.E »

Lot's of good opportunities to race this weekend.

Sat. 19th - Escape velocity spring series - Aldergrove A,B,C, and Novice races http://www.escapevelocity.bc.ca/spring

Sun 20th - Escape Velocity Spring Series - Bradner A,B,C races
http://www.escapevelocity.bc.ca/spring

Sun 20th - VCL Caleb Pike A,B, and a Cat3/4
http://duanebc.com/raceresults2011/VCL% ... march9.htm

Lets get as many people out representing the race team as possible. Who's planning on doing what?
I'll be doing the cat 3/4 RR at Caleb.

I am doing the Cat 3/4 race at Caleb. I am looking for a TEAM effort that controls the race and helps me along! My goal this year is to make it to Cat 3 but that is unlikely to happen without the Argyle Army doing its thing. So... lets see what we can do locally as a team. Lets make 2011 the year we dont just race as a bunch of individuals that happen to have the same jerseys. I think if we all took a page out of the Roland/Josh book from 2 weeks ago it would be amazing!

FYI - To get to Cat 3 you need to accumulate 20 points in a rolling 2 year period (I have 12 from last year).

Points Scales

25+ starters --- 11-24 starters --- 5-10 starters
1st 8 pts ------- 1st 7 pts ------- 1st 3 pts
2nd 6 pts ------- 2nd 5 pts ------- 2nd 2 pts
3rd 5 pts ------- 3rd 4 pts ------- 3rd 1 pt
4th 4 pts ------- 4th 3 pts
5th 3 pts ------- 5th 2 pts
6th 2 pts ------- 6th 1 pt
7th 1 pt

I'd be very surprised if we didn't get 11 starters

I'm in for Caleb Pike.
The day I quit is the day I die, and probably not even then.

Dylan, do you have a UCI or a citizen license? I assume you need a UCI license to enter the cat 3/4 race (not totally sure about that though).

Apparently it's three separate races. A, B and cat3/4. Peter just confirmed that was his understanding too. I would assume you need a UCI license (and be a cat 3 or 4) to do the cat 3/4 race, and you can race with either a UCI or Cycling BC citizen license and self seed in the A and B races.

edit: just sent a message to Schwalbe CC to confirm......

Anybody interested in racing B? I think this is likely the appropriate category for myself and a number of other individuals in our club. This stated, if B is for true novices, I'm happy to participate as pack fodder for the Cat 3/4 upgrade race.

race as pack fodder. I suspect that what we think of as the B race will really be the 3/4 race witha few faster guys off the front. I think racing 3/4 is actually better for anyone who has raced before.

B is supposed to be the same as it's always been in VCL, so, not really aimed at novices. If you can hang with the A ride in tripleshot for the most part, that is around B in VCL. I would call it a cat 4 equivalent race.

If you can always be there contesting at the end of the beacon laps on a TS A rides through out the winter, or you can hang with a TS A+ ride (when we do them again for spring), you may possibly be able to hang with the pack in the A race. The A race is generally cat 3, but often cat 1/2 guys race and put the hurt down.

If you have a UCI license, you might as well do the cat3/4 race. I figure it'll be closer to the typical VCL A race than the B though.

They are not offering a C race at Caleb this week, but those will be more aimed at novices.

I guess that makes me a B as I have a citizen license. Who else is in?

I have signed up for a UCI license but have not received it. I can bring a receipt to the race.

Yes you can Dylan. Despite warning others about the reduced rate deadline ages ago, I also neglected to get my license, so it's e-mail receipt for me too. I'm keen on the team strategy thing, but this weekend survival will be the only goal.
