Re: Not crash-related (though, perhaps crash-preventative)

Does anyone have any fresh intel on the best tires for the wet rides? Please share! I have had good luck with the Specialized Roubaix tires, they seem to bite well in the wet and roll reasonably well. Otherwise the Continental 4000sII are still a great choice. Continental also has a wet weather spe...

Re: Safety--passing commuter cyclists

A couple of quick thoughts: Right or wrong, many cyclists don’t shoulder check if they don’t hear anything. This can especially be the case early in the morning when there isn't a lot of background noise. A groups of cyclists can be surprisingly stealthy. Large buffers when passing should ideally be...

Re: Bike cameras

I think ideally you will need a forward and rear facing camera. As this covers vehicles not yielding as well issues overtaking. In terms of features, it is best to find one that will auto-loop so you don't have to continually clear the memory card to continue recording (I think a number of the camer...

Re: Saturday sufferfest - the glorious resurrection

Hi All, Wendell, I was just logging in to PM you about that truck and whether you could catch a plate number. He made another appearance up by the McDonalds as we turned off the highway (yelling at us manically out his window)...might be worth checking your film just in case. No number. By the time...

Re: Saturday sufferfest - the glorious resurrection

Thank you very much everyone for letting me come, being welcoming, and letting me hang at the back. I will never forget my first group ride. Special thanks to Wendell for those pushes, and especially Martin for all his help. Good job hanging in there Paul, it showed a lot of character! We have eith...

Re: Saturday sufferfest - the glorious resurrection

I am interested in resurrecting the ride, as I have dropped by a number of times and was disappointed by the solitude (although there was one other rider a couple weeks ago).

Just not sure about this Saturday (April 29).

Re: Don't play chicken with a duck

Right now is mating season and many animals can become aggressive and territorial. Male mallards can be quite aggressive this time of year. From Wikipedia : During the breeding season, both male and female mallards can become aggressive, driving off competitors to themselves or their mate by chargin...

Re: Are disc brakes allowed on club rides

the club allows non-disc brakes on club rides I see what you did there... I agree it feels a bit silly to have to ask, but I am looking to buy my first new road bike in well over a decade and it would be maddening to get caught out by some bizarre backwards policy. Now I can forge ahead with one le...

Are disc brakes allowed on club rides

I am somewhat new to your club and was wondering if there were any explicit club rules (written or otherwise) governing the use of disc brakes on club events. I have seen some disc brake equipped bikes on the couple winter rides I have been on, so I expect it is a go-ahead, but I wanted to confirm t...

Re: Tea drinkers take note

A couple quick thoughts (although the article is behind a paywall so I was not able peruse their methods): How did they control for the fact most endurance cyclists already ingest caffeine. It would be hard to find a set of "experimental units" (cyclists) that are not already habituated to...
