Sidney Tuesday TT permanently cancelled
I noticed the Sidney Velo cycling club will no longer run the long standing Tuesday evening TT during the summer months due to retirement of volunteers. A few Tripleshoters and juniors have been regular competitors in these events. Will miss these "fun" events. Any ideas re alternatives? G...

Re: Liability insurance for non-club rides
I am not an insurance expert but some home insurance policies may cover liability claims. This should cover repairs to the offending vehicle or persons involved but you would need to check your policy very carefully for coverage. I personally had an incident 2 years ago (details at coffee) bike vs. ...

Re: Trainer tire 700 x 23 wanted
I was able to find a trainer tire at Oak bay Cycle before Christmas. No blowouts but actually had a tire start to melt (smell of burning rubber and tire turning to liquid) when the tire was slipping on the trainer. The (not smart- magnetic resistance) trainer became too hot to touch. Lesson learned-...

Tubeless tire tools
I have been running tubeless tires on my road and gravel bikes for over a year with no (apart from 3 self- sealing) flats. The tires can be very tight to mount but I discovered an inexpensive tool- Kool Stop Tire Bead Jack that made it possible to mount the tires without a trip to the LBS. It was le...

Re: zwift ride in the morning
I have been using a KICKR Snap (uses the bike's rear tire) the last year or so along with an Apple TV. The trainer has worked well apart from a worn out bearing needing to be replaced under warranty (after around 3000 virtual km). It would slip on grades over 10% so I mounted a dedicated trainer tir...

Helmet safety ratings
I recently have seen several articles on the web re bike helmet safety ratings. Do they prevent concussions? Re: Virtual training options
I have been happily using Fulgaz with a smart trainer over the last year. Only solo rides are possible but several hundred rides (with a few Victoria area) are available. It will also kind of work with a regular trainer without any sensors at all. The video will run at the originally recorded speed ...

Re: We all need a laugh today....and this one is pretty funny....
The airbag helmet idea needs a little work. Standard helmets do not offer enough protection from concussions. The problem with the fabric of the airbag is that it will catch on the pavement (like the "foam in a mesh" helmets of yesteryear) and transmit too much rotational force to the wear...

Re: covid-19 and group rides
If you have a trainer, speed sensor, and cadence sensor there are at least a dozen platforms ofering virtual rides such as Zwift and FulGaz. A power meter or smart trainer is not needed for many.
