Road conditions for Sunday am?

Tmrw morning looks cold again according to environment Canada - minus 2 at 8 am. Also, there is fog supposed to develop overnight. Question for those knowledgeable in these weather matters, what does fog + cold temps mean for the likelihood of frosty/icy roads? I've lost a little faith in the dew po...

Re: Icy roads...

Ditto what Geoff and Tim said. I slid around a corner this morning (in my car) and upon arriving at work learned that one of my students had crashed on his way in, and others reported witnessing cyclists crashing and climbing onto buses during the morning commute. I just drove home from a meeting (a...

Re: Cross is STILL here!

I don't claim to know the directions to take. I had just seen it done as a loop around Langford Lake, through the Thetis area neighborhoods and back through those fun, twisty Thetis trails on other people's strava maps. It seems a popular cross route that I haven't yet checked out so am interested i...

Re: Cross is STILL here!

I'm a maybe. Will text you Ann by tmrw morning so you know whether to expect me. How long do you think you'll ride for? Any interest in trying the Langford Lake/Thetis route in lieu of Elk/Beaver? Does anyone know if the trails are icy at all? I guess this is all dependent on whether any of the fore...

Re: Yes there IS a ride on Thurdays

Pretty impressive turnout today! It was far too cold though. My feet were good for 1.5 sets; 3 sets plus the ride home froze them into blocks :-(

So thankful for the company!

Re: Winter riding - not just for weirdos

But the most common initial reaction in Finland was a look of mild confusion. It was almost as if people had never given the question much thought; as if it was silly to form an opinion on something you can't control, like asking what you thought about the colour of the sky." Well said. Its al...

Re: Yes there IS a ride on Thurdays

Andrew! I will join you. And only b/c I can't run or ski which would be much preferred in this weather and I am going slightly insane. Having been more or less off my road bike since October I am sure this will be an icy awakening.

Re: Sunday Mountain Bike?

Will be at the dump parking lot with a non-TS friend at 9 am. Happy to have anyone join us. Will probably ride for 2 hrs if we don't freeze.

Sunday Mountain Bike?

Since I've seen two posts relating to Mtn biking in the last week, I think it's safe for me to post a fat tire ride suggestion.... Given that tomorrow is looking like more of that nasty, cold rainy weather, I'm thinking of heading to the dump and would love some company. I can't say I know my way ar...

Re: Hip Bursitis - Trochanteric

I thought I had this too after a sudden onset running injury 3 weeks ago. The PT I'm seeing thinks it is trochanteric tendonitis (have not been seen by an MD). I've stopped running but kept on riding and have had 3 treatments of IMS and I am almost pain free and am looking forward to trying running ...

Re: Cross is Here!

Geoff, I am thinking of cross tmrw too. But seeing as I have a 13K road ride to get down to Pareto, whether I make it down there will depend on the ice/frost factor up on the roads. Right now I can't see my driveway! My safest bet might be to hit the trails that are right by my house. Will check in ...

Re: It's frost time folks!

Thanks Andrew for reposting the link to that handy website. I remembered it from last winter but had no idea where to find it! No frost in sight for my solo cross ride this morning. But there was lots (and lots) of mud, charging dogs, stubborn deer, darting bunnies and extra poor visibility on the t...

Re: Cross is Here!

Geoff, I can't ride tomorrow morning but I think Greg might. I'll get him to post when he gets home. But I'm planning to ride a mix of cross and road (and mtn) the rest of the winter. I don't see any point in putting the cross bike away since it turns dark, wet, cold, wind, nasty into fun (and I'm f...

Re: Cross is Here!

I am a definite maybe for tomorrow morning. It is my turn for an early ride but something went pop in my hip today while on a short run and tonight I am having trouble walking up the stairs. I know, this begs the question of why do I run? So depending on mobility and pain tomorrow morning I may be o...

Re: Cross is Here!

Cross riders who like to sleep in - Greg and I have a sitter tomorrow morning and given it is forecast to rain (oh, really?) seems like a great time to ride cross. We plan to leave our house at 845 and have to be back by noon (sitter's time constraints) - coffee may or may not be involved depending ...
