Re: Rain ride tips

Persuade myself its usually warmer on rain days than sunny days in winter For me, it only took one ride in a 2 degree downpour to shatter that illusion permanently. Rain rides count double; you're getting fitter, and your rivals who stayed in bed are getting worse :) I'm more likely to stay in bed ...

Re: Rule # 33 - Shave your Guns

The pragmatic rationalization is that road rash cleans easier and heals faster on a clean-shaven leg versus one matted with hair. The real reason, though, is vanity. Muscle tone is far more apparent on legs shaved silky smooth. Of course, real men wax. I found it a lot easier to apply sunscreen san...

No surprise that McQuaid dislikes Hamilton and Kimmage, but his attempts to justify it made no sense. Comes across as a bit of a nutbar if you ask me.....

Re: All the sordid details: USADA evidence against Armstrong

If they say they "never doped", who would believe them? The admitted dopers might out them, and the investigators would start to circle. As well, they haven't been offered any deal by the USADA for reduced penalties. I hasten to say I'm not disapproving of deals, those that talk should ge...

Re: All the sordid details: USADA evidence against Armstrong

Sadly, I don't think change is coming soon. The general theme of the riders continues to be the need to look to the future, but ignore the past, as evidenced by Andy Schlecks comments here: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/andy-schleck-cycling-needs-to-focus-on-the-future Specifically People have to ...

Re: All the sordid details: USADA evidence against Armstrong

Had a look at the rider sanction documents. Leipheimer seems to be hit the hardest, being stripped of his results from June 99 to July 06 and July 07 where he made the podium at the Tour. Hincapie appears to fared much better although I am not sure why. He admitted to doping between 1996 and 2006 in...

Re: My Rant: This morning's not so group ride

You can call Bartons comments whatever you want. The point is they are right on the mark and something that I have been witness to on many occasions. People showing up for our B & C rides expect no drop and a certain expected speed. Why? Because that is what our club is known for and what is sta...

Re: WTB: Wheelset for Winter Bike

Any suggestions? Obviously I am looking for cheap, strong and light and dont want to pick just 2 of those! I don't think you have a choice. You can never get all three. Cheap is also relative so you may have to clarify that one a little more..... As for wheels, I really like the Diablo SL's from Br...

Re: Willis Point hillclimb

Nicely done Stephane for the 2 HC wins. You can't stop riding those hills though. Next years Neild Road HC is only 9 months away and you have to be prepared. I figure you should be able to get at least 300 Observatory repeats in by then! Congrats also to Brent for an outstanding season and overall p...

Marathon Fraud?

Good article on the lengths someone will (allegedly) go to gain accolades in place of true achievement.

A bit long, but a good read.
