Great digs in a cycling mecca
My wife Dorothy and I spent several months in Tucson at the beginning of this year, just as COVID travel restrictions lifted. It was a last minute arrangement cobbled together with 10(!) Airbnb stays. It was a varied experience but one place stood out, so much so that we booked it for 3 months, Janu...

Did Zwift save my life, or almost kill me?
I gotta say that after a winter of Zwifting, my bike handling skills are pretty awesome. Steep, off-camber hairpin turns at 80kmh? No sweat - in fact, I usually do them with my eyes closed. Zwift's data-rich training provided both the excess stimulus and the data that led me on an important voyage o...

Re: Virtual training options
I've got what I'm calling a "Zwift starter kit" ideal for someone who has Apple tv. It's a Garmin 500 kit with combo sensor and new unused CABLE Ant+ to Bluetooth converter. More details on UsedVic: https://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/Zwift-starter-kit--Garmin-500-bike-computer-and-...

Re: New ride proposal: the Dawn Patrol
Thanks, John! Does this award come with a badge I can put on my jacket?
And thanks also, Rolf, for the recognition from the group I view as the harder of the hard core. Too bad I've taken off my knobby tires to fit fenders on for the winter road season. Maybe I need another bike... (n+1)

Re: New ride proposal: the Dawn Patrol
Well, the inaugural Dawn Patrol ride was a smashing success. I lay in bed listening to the deluge outside and watching Spond as riders bailed out, thinking, "c'mon, just a couple more and I can just stay here and listen to the rain." Keener Aaron ("what's a little rain? The temperatur...

Re: New ride proposal: the Dawn Patrol
PS - the fender reference is a strong hint, in case anyone failed to pick up on it. Yes, fenders are required along with regulation crap flaps.

Re: New ride proposal: the Dawn Patrol
Apparently the probability of precipitation tomorrow at 7 is around 100%. Just finished putting on my fenders and I have my flashy new Tripleshot rain-resistant jacket. I'll be there ready to brave the elements in the best FairweatherMike tradition unless I see that everyone registered has bailed......

Re: New ride proposal: the Dawn Patrol
Fair comment. Riding in the dark is fairly hazardous as well... part of daylight ride planning will be route selection that gives priority to quiet roads.

New ride proposal: the Dawn Patrol
The fact that I've been a Tripleshot member since 2008 doesn't mean I've gotten used to the surreal experience of riding in the dark when Fall arrives. It's an interesting novelty on a beautiful starry morning, but... no. So, with so many folks working from home during this season of COVID - and per...

Know any good wheelbuilders?
I ordered new carbon hoops for my old but fine hubs after discovering multiple stress fractures around the spoke holes on my aluminum rims. Now I need someone to expertly mate the new with the old. (With YouTube assistance I could give it a shot but I want these wheels to be rideable...) Any suggest...

If you aren’t working or things are just tight and you run out of food, please don’t go to sleep with an empty stomach. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed to send me a private message, text, call. I will be more than happy to share what food I have. We will never speak about it again. I will drop and go...

Reply was somehow posted to the wrong thread - kind of a Twlight Zone thing. I blame the software (always a convenient scapegoat)

Re: 7th Annual Hurricane Ridge Club Ride
I second the request to move the cutoff time - not least because I have, uh, missed the previously announced cutoff time. By just a few hours. I intend to go and would appreciate being part of the crowd that gets their park fees paid!

Re: Big Loop - June 25
I'm out of town From the 8th to the 15th. From the mention of Saturday rides I'm guessing that some folks are still working Monday to Friday...
I'm interested in the 20th. Could be fun with a gang of four or so.

Wanted: Garmin Edge 500 parts
My wife's Garmin needs a new screen, as the flex connector at the bottom of the screen unit has developed a fault - resulting in blank screen. Anyone have a dead 500 that may have still have a good screen? Or a a working 500 that you're ready to sell?

The Big Loop - The Right Way?
(This post, originally entered on Strava [https://www.strava.com/activities/1757487380] appears as a matter of record - and to encourage discussion toward a counterclockwise Big Loop group ride someday. Previous proposals - see below - along the same line were greeted with the sound of one hand clap...

Munn Road (gently!) Wednesday morning
OK, previous invites to do Munn Road have elicited responses only from HILLBEASTS. It's a great way to stay humble, but some company would be nice too, so let me be velocity-specific as to the meaning of gentle: avg. 10-12 kmh on the longer climbs, and probably 8 kmh on the last kick to the little r...
