Sorry Barton. We waited at Caddy bay after the last sprint and the consensus was you folks had headed to the GG ride.

Some great shots for sure. Wish I was there, but the hockey gods were calling and it was dryer in the rink.

I think there are 3 of us one wheelers, but there isn't a Strava activity for unicycling, so what do I do with my Garmin?

Re: Real estate depreciation/ neighbourhood annoyance

On the Tuesday ride, I can think of a few places where we might regularly be loud: Landsdowne & Uplands ("clear") Cedar Hill Cross / Cadboro Bay / Upper Terrace ("Clear, steady up, rolling") Landsdowne and Cadboro Bay ("clear") Top of KGT (general chatter "how ...

Re: leg shaving and wind tunnel tests

Love reading Alex Huchinson. Interesting to discover that the original work which was taken as gospel was based on a fake leg in a miniature wind tunnel with glued on hair. Alan, I'm surprised your skeptical mind hadn't ferreted this out. I suspect we'll be seeing your shorn legs shortly.

Re: Can anyone explain the physics of Hesjedal's bike...

I think the rear wheel is still rotating when he crashes and when it touches the road it drives the bike around while it pivots on the front wheel. That or there is an invisible motor attached to the Di2 battery. Let the conspiracy theories begin.

Re: How dangerous is cycling?

See, that's the thing, it isn't clearly more dangerous than driving. It just seems wrong to me that the most dangerous activity listed in the study is walking. I think they have the numerator wrong- deaths/ km and deaths/ trip aren't the best metrics. Maybe deaths/ hour make more sense, but no one h...

How dangerous is cycling?

I was talking to a non-riding friend who was driving out at rush hour to pick up his 15 year old very athletic daughter at PISE. When I suggested he get his daughter a bike to ride home, saving them both time and frustration of sitting in traffic, he stated, "I like biking, but I know too many ...

Re: The Rules

I've been away for a month and have gotten fat(ter) and slow(er), but I did manage one group ride with the Ottawa Bicycle Club. Though they have some 1200 members, there were only about 16 of us for a Tuesday night ride- two groups of 8. I big turnout is ~50 people for a weekend ride. Left me wonder...

50 year old men share quite a bit with 16 year old boys; the common refrain is, "Does that come in carbon?". Great blog post Alan.

My momma always taught me, correlation does not a causation make.
I guess I need not worry anyway since Strava says I don't spend anywhere near 8hr 45min on the saddle per week.

Velofix- great service

The only maintenance I've done on my bike over the last 3 years is to change tires, tubes, brake pads and the chain. Its my summer bike, my winter bike, my only road bike and strange noises were starting to emanate from various places. Time for some professional TLC so I decided to check out VeloFix...

Re: Second Inaugural Silly Summer Solsice 100 miler - June 2

Thanks all for making this ride happen this year. The great group of people made the ride enjoyable, though next time I will follow Alan's recommendation of standing during the climb. I suspect my KOM is the result of having a faster GPS, not necessarily a faster ride. Either that or everyone else b...
