VCL_2&3

Second race of the series is tomorrow at 10 am (Caleb Pike) and the third is Wednesday at the Speedway, the race we host. I have a list of people who offered to help out.... I'll be contacting you shortly. Keep in mind that the Speedway is a great venue for spectating as well. I believe the forecast...

10:30 am start tomorrow (Sunday) Bring extra cash for that one-time number and timing chip fee. Youth - Waivers are available from the VCL site. They can be printed and signed at home... parents/guardians do not have to sign on site. I suffered a slight ankle sprain today and probably won't race tom...

VCL_launch_party_tonight

Sorry, should have posted this sooner. There's a 'wrap-up' (2017) and VCL (Victoria Cycling League) launch party this evening at Oak Bay Rec Centre (7pm). Come out and learn about local racing for almost all levels of skill/fitness (A, B and C races).

Re: Wednesday Hills

Hi Claire et al., Wednesday Hills is still a thing, but as mentioned above, the numbers vary. I usually ride straight to Caddy Bay and start at around 6:05 am. Sometimes there are people already on their first climb, sometimes a few show up later, sometimes I've completed the set alone. I'll add tha...

Re: VCL_Speedway_2018

A few notes from this evenings VCL meeting (Mar 12): Racing will be a little more expensive this year due to a once/yr fee ($5) for a timing chip plus a $5 fee per race for managing the timing data (new total = $15/race). Disk brakes allowed for VCL races, but note, they are not allowed in UCI sanct...

... ten mile point.

You've reminded me Rolf, I found a black, fairly well-used, Oak Bay Bikes water bottle on the trails there while walking the dogs a week or so ago. It's been through the dishwasher and is ready to be returned. Let me know,

Did you go Barton? I got up at 6 am and then checked the weather again at 6:30 am, but it was raining too hard for this weak man. I'll try to join next week - I am keen to ride the course.

Unless you've started, I am winning: Tuesday Feb. 13. Lunch: Chicken salad sandwich, Rumble and Bounty Bar. Latte at 3:30 pm 5:20pm: Two laps of 10-Mile Point. Distance and average speed unknown. Felt great. Dinner (7:25pm, anticipated): Beef meat pie (Slater's) and roasted veggies. No alcohol. Noth...

Re: Good Training Plans?

Start a training diary. Actually, I challenge you to a training diary duel. I have been meaning to do this for years. When you have a great ride (or a terrible one), you'll be able to look back at the previous week or two to see how you ate, slept and rode. Then repeat the good/best combo (food, sle...

My daughter remarked to me the other day that LOL doesn't really mean laughing out loud. That is, LOL is short for laughing out loud, but that people aren't actually doing it. Who knew? Anyway, I was, after watching that video...(front fell off). Faculty within earshot probably think that Taylor has...

Hello everyone, Just in case you are wondering, I had a very painful snowboarding accident (indeed several of them within a few hours) a few weeks ago. I should be out on the bike again soon. It's the first time in my life that I have said to myself, 'I am too old for this', .... and really meant it...

Re: Blaze_laserlight

He says it makes a big difference with pedestrians in the city - less stepping out.

I imagine it will reduce the number of cars that turn right in front of cyclists.

A colleague on campus just got one... very cool. Not so sure about it's use in the peloton, but could be life-saving in traffic.

Taking advantage of zero expectations - kids, dogs, wife, they expect nothing from me over the hour or two. Departure: 1pm or 1:15 if that's better for you. Route: Pure Vannila, north along Sunday route to Sayward (just past Matticks), across #17 to Oldfield Rd. and then back via Royal View and Mt D...

Re: Kit Design Ideas - WE NEED YOU!!!!

I like Kevin L.'s suggestion. The colours could be selected so that Barton's favourite kit could go with it - i.e., one could wear the new jersey with baby blue shorts/bib-shorts. Not necessary, but an idea. Also, we could ask for sprinter, climber, and GC versions. For example, the person in the cl...
