Re: US road champion Justin Williams: ‘Being in a sport that is primarily white it was hard not to feel alone, it broke

There was a local article (Oak Bay News and affiliates - Saanich News etc.) a few years ago that had a similar (not identical) theme... cycling, a sport for white guys. I wrote a reply making the point that there's more to diversity than skin colour. Diversity in cycling (and in just about everythin...

Alan's post and image, copied here, reminded me. I bought the new kit ($150) from Dan (posted on the TS classified ads) just for this event. Then one of us (Doh!) shows up with the old old kit.

Gold medal for Tripleshot Cycling at the Master's TTT in Duncan! I'd like to leave it at that - the headline is accurate. But, there is a little more to the story. Joe, Tod, Allan C. and I practised last Thursday and on the basis of that success, entered the Sidney Velo Masters TTT (Team Time Trial)...

Re: Speedway5

Several items were left behind yesterday. An Oak Bay Bikes T-shirt, some riding gloves (small), and a very fancy water bottle.

Speedway5

The 5th and last Speedway race was good fun for all, except the A's, who agreed that it was best not to race on a freshly-wetted surface. The B's started on a dry track and had an exciting race, but reported that by the last few laps wheels were starting to slip dangerously. Before continuing with f...

Speedway #3

I confess, I am not sure how many VCL races there have been, but I do know we're at Speedway race #3. Clear and sunny last night, warm and then very cold within the 2 hr timespan we were all there. Thanks very much to Martin and Mark for the help. Lots of participants, perhaps the largest C group ev...

VCL#2_Report

Despite the poor forecast, we had a dry track last night. Thirteen signed up for the C race, 25 in B and 14 in A. I don't have the results, so if I make a mistake or two below, I'll correct it soon. The average age of the C race was 32 years, but there was no one in that race in their thirties. It w...

Re: VCL_2019

Second race takes place Wednesday, with the C's underway at 6 pm. B's 6:30 pm and A's at 7:15 pm. $15 for adults. Eighteen and under fee is $10. Note that everyone also needs a license, race number and timing chip. All are available at the track. $8 for number and timing chip (good for the whole sea...

VCL#1_Report

It was clear today that great racing doesn't require good weather nor a large field. The C race started at 2 pm on a dry track with just four entries. They dealt with a brief downpour and Richele Frank, who recently moved from Vancouver (I am told), eventually gapped James Holtz to claim the win wit...

VCL_starts_Sat:_Calling_all_Doctors_Nurses_Paramedics

Hi everyone, The VCL starts up THIS Saturday. I hope to post a race schedule tomorrow (Tuesday). It will include some details on a new youth program. It is always very reassuring to have someone there with some medical training. Accidents are very rare. In fact, we've had as many people arrive with ...

Re: Knee pain! Any suggestions?

Not a doctor....at least not a medical one. My knee pain might be completely different from yours. With that in mind, my advise is this: every time you think you are in the right gear, shift once or twice to spin a bit faster. That is, work your heart and lungs more and your knees less. Something el...

red light found

While riding between the fast and not-as-fast groups today (Fri) though Mt. Doug I came across a red light in the middle of the road - I assume it was dropped/lost by one of the fast guys. Let me know if/when you want it back.

FridayAM

I haven't been riding much lately - this might be old news. Driving up Shelbourne yesterday I notice an enormous pot-hole just north of McRae's Restaurant (i.e., about 100m after the lights at Hillside). It would be in the path of the Friday AM ride and it will break wheels if not clavicles.
