Next kit order can we get stick-on sideburns? Maybe in TS colours? (Oh wait- that's over the top...)

Re: One in three trips in Copenhagen is by bike

Brian- re: negative impact on ridership of bike helmet laws- you're right and this is a well documented unintended consequence of the law seen in many jurisdictions. One CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal) article showed a definition reduction in closed head injuries in the Maritimes after t...

Re: One in three trips in Copenhagen is by bike

And just noticed the article- worth a read and a few minutes pondering life here and in Van with bike super-highways: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/18/world/europe/in-denmark-pedaling-to-work-on-a-superhighway.html Note the Canadian reference: "In Denmark, thanks to measures like the superhigh...

Re: Alan's crash today

Crap Alan -- really sorry to hear. Better a raccoon than a deer I suppose. With the police keeping a closer eye on cyclists recently hopefully they caught this incident and issued the varmint a ticket for irresponsible crossing- he was probably on his way home from an all-night carouse. This was not...

Re: Garmin Edge 500 or 800???

I'm not reading any more of this thread either- and especially not Mike's post. Flat out refuse. I'm not going to read about his ride to Diamond Head. Or his ride to Hanamanamanannaaana Bay.

None of it. I'm done.

So there.

Re: PSA_test_&_cyclists

John -- the PSA is actually a terrible screening test because it generates such a high percentage of false positives (false alarms)-- ask Alan about this; he's just written a book about it. Any mechanical trauma to the prostate can falsely elevate the PSA-- even the doctors well-meaning finger. Chee...

Re: Maui Training Camp March 9 - 26

Have you checked cost to ship your bike- may be cheaper to rent if you're flying AC or United which nail you- I believe $200 each way but check. South Maui Cycles (Kihei) and West Maui Cycles (Lahaina) both rent fantastic carbon bikes for about $200-250/week. Steel frame a bit less.

Re: Maui Training Camp March 9 - 26

Geoff- I just managed to delete my long note to you. Lister/Eric are totally right- those are the three key rides. Leave Haleakala to the second week when you've got a few more miles in the legs- but do it because it's one of the more incredible rides on the planet. Paia better for biking holiday; K...

That's so weird Lister- I just did that this morning to your Volvo when I went riding by. Felt so good a few of us have organized a bike-swarm on your street later this aft. I've got the name of a great bodywork guy if you need...

Re: Rowers make great cyclists

Warning: med-geek speak... Brian- there was a NEJM study of cardiac hypertrophy in athlete's hearts about 20 years ago- they measured heart sizes of almost 1000 athletes. Only 16 had hearts that were so hypertrophic they actually met the criteria for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. 15 were rowers. And ...

Tough day at Ironman

Mike Lawless and I competed in IMC today; I'll let Mike post his own race report when he's recovered. The main difference between our races is that he finished and I didn't. I came into today’s with high hopes for a strong result; unfortunately my day ended at about mile 92 of the bike with an ambul...

Oops, what Garmin means is they're nearly almost sort of close to releasing (blush- should have read a bit further first): Garmin unveils Vector at upcoming shows We're still cranking away with refinements to Vector™ so we can bring pedal-based power to the market soon. As you likely know, Garmin ac...
