Garmin for cycling

I'm planning on getting a Garmin for cycling and I'm trying to figure out which one to buy. There seem to be a lot of features out there - Garmin Connect, speed, lap training, cadence, heart rate monitor, altitude, etc. and I'm wondering if I could get some feedback on the relative strengths and wee...

Re: Holiday weekend rides

the four of us left Fairfield Starbucks at 7:35, but with my second flat at Cadboro Bay, I packed it in. I shouldn't have pointed out last weekend that I had gone a year and a half since me last flat. Norm, Rob and David Hill kept on going.

Re: Holiday weekend rides

I'm up for rolling at 7:00. My internal alarm clock will wake me up before 6:00 even if it is a holiday.

Re: Holiday weekend rides

If we're doing the 'High Mountain Ride' again this weekend, I suggest we meet at the Starbucks across from the Mayfair Mall on Douglas. It's on the way and some won't have to backtrack.

Holiday weekend rides

So what's happening with the Friday and Sunday rides with the holiday weekend. It makes sense on Friday to either start a little later (when it is starting to get light) or maybe have a different and longer ride on Friday - maybe up the peninsula. As for Sunday being Easter (hiding eggs, etc), maybe...

Re: Alternate Idea for Fridays

I think it is an excellent idea. It provides an incentive for 'the last of us up ash' to really push and livens up the ride a little.

Re: Saturday morning high mountains

Hey Josh - I'll meet you there at 6:00 but my better half is in the last week of a class at 9:00a.m. so I'll turn back at about 7:15.

Alternately, we could start even earlier, but the Malahat would still be dark and my lights are ok, but not great.

Re: Hammerfests & No Drop Rides

I went to a triple shot ride and a hammerfest broke out..... I wasn't elated with being spit out the back end of the A ride, however being one of 7 riders (8 if you count the tandem as 2), helped assuage my wounded ego. I did enjoy the workout - I would give it a '9'. The premise of this morning's r...

Re: Times colonist?

I think this was just a setup to get everyone out for a hill ride.

Nice training technique, but what will the encore be?

Re: B ride for Fridays

Maybe 'pileup' was a little strong - only three of us went down. Everyone rode away with only a small bruise or two.

Re: B ride for Fridays

Another option may be just to do a good old-fashioned countoff. When we're all there, count 1 - 2 around the circle and have one group leave 3-4 minutes before the other. Or alternately, the first 10 to arrive, leave as a group right at 6:00 and the rest can leave at 6:05. It's arbitrary but being o...

Re: Remembrance day Ride anyone??

Hey Rolf, you could always join the farm team ride. We meat at Richmond and Richardson at 6:00 with coffee afterward. We haven't seen you out for that one for a while.

Wanted - liquied trainer

I'm looking for a liquid trainer in good shape. On mornings when my better half is out for an early run and someone has to keep an eye on the kidlings, I would love to be able to do a workout.

If you have one available, or know someone who does, drop a note and I'll follow it up.

Re: What to do when someone is dropped or stops for a flat

This morning was my first time on the Friday 'A' ride and I appreciate being picked up on the hills - twice. I heard it was a little faster than Wednesday's ride from Richardson & Richmond and was curious to find out.

Thanks for the lift and the no drop policy.
