Clara Hughes and the state of bc youth cycling

Found an interesting discussion going on in the cyclingnews clinic this morning in a thread discussing Clara Hughes. . "Axel Merckx - doper or clean - doper" And of course dad introduced Lance to his good doctor. Way to go kids, follow those guys - only one rule - just don't get caught. So...

Re: Blowing the Stop Sign on Mt Doug x rd and Blenkinsop

On another note, why are you hiking? d It's my latest workout to try to stay fit while my neck gets better enough to handle regular riding. Mt Doug trail ascents up the really steep trails on the back, as fast as i can climb it. 4 or 5 repeats per morning. Doesn't quite replace riding, but ending i...

Blowing the Stop Sign on Mt Doug x rd and Blenkinsop

I've been putting off posting this, what with all the attention sh*t cyclists of Victoria has been getting lately. Last Friday morning (May 29th) I happened to be driving up blenkinsop around 6:15AM to go hiking in mt Doug. Just as I got to mt doug x rd, the A ride came around the corner at the stop...

Re: Gravel Grinder or CX LSD and off-road Granfondo.

'pretty rough' is a bit of an understatment for what that was. the road was just blast rock
I thought my hands were going to fall off.

Re: The debate over hydraulic disc brakes in the pro peloton

The almost universal assumption by non engineers is that disc brakes will simply work better on road bikes than rim brakes, when the fact is getting them to work well enough to release has been the driving factor that has delayed their release until now. Right now, disc brake develpment for road a p...

Re: Who's at fault?

I'd say the back rider. The front rider's move was sketchy and erratic, his signal was vague, and I'd be pretty ticked if someone pulled a swerve like that on me. At the end of the day though, I think it's your responsibility to protect yourself from those in front of you, and always expect anything...

Re: Everesting

the first climb of goldstream heights would be perfect for this http://www.strava.com/segments/642935 1.3km, 121m, + big wide open road with good pavement and almost no traffic to descend on, would cut the total saddle time down considerably, just need to make sure you have the right gearing as it's...

I think that cop has it wrong, which is often the case with cops and bike traffic laws. http://www.saanich.ca/living/mayor/boards/pdf/2013/BIPED/feb21minutes.pdf Page 4 of these meeting minutes from SAANICH BICYCLE & PEDESTRIAN MOBILITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE states that bikes have right of way alon...

Slightly Shortened Sufferfest

Dylan Reeves and I are planning on doing a slightly shortened sufferfest route tomorrow, as we need to be back early. We're going to cut across at the airport at sidney instead of doing lands end. We'll be leaving cook st starbucks at 6AM, but no warm-up to matticks this week. We're going to try to ...
