Re: Tugwell Main smooth or bumpy?

Did anyone ever end up going Tugwell Main? I'm looking to cycle up it to get access to Mt. Muir. Was thinking of taking a cross bike. Any insight as to how enjoyable this will be? Yes I did the ride and went down on Tugwell. It is definitely bumpy. At the top are sections with large sharp rocks tha...

Re: May 2 - Ride for Water - Chilliwack

Does anybody want to do something on the Island at that date? I was thinking of taking a bus up island to let's say Cumberland and then ride back to Victoria on Gravel roads?

Re: March 14 - Big Terra Nova Clockwise Loop

Great recon Markus. Does the revised route seem the most appropriate then? I like it. The Pearson College trails are super flowy and very pretty. Maybe meander in there a bit more and find our way down to the campus? Going up the north face on Quimper (the very last bit to the hut) will be very ske...

Re: March 14 - Big Terra Nova Clockwise Loop

Group: Those are some great pics Andy. I'm still keen, but can be talked into postponing in the hopes that some the trails will be cleared. Thoughts? Andy: I have updated the route to reflect a meander down Humpback Rd and Phelps as it didn't add much KMs like you said. Did I hit your desired route...

Re: March 14 - Big Terra Nova Clockwise Loop

That all sounds great. I think though that going up Grassy lake trail after the new bridge is mostly bike pushing, which is fine. This time of the year the top of the lakes have typically huge puddles (about knee deep) which are fun to cross. I wold also suggest to go down the back of Mt. Quimper,(t...

Re: March 14 - Big Terra Nova Clockwise Loop

Obviously I'm in. Counterclockwise seems to be the best directions since the Harrison trail and the Grass Lake trail are really pretty rough on a bike. The Grass Lake trail might actually be a lot of fun going down.

Re: Van Isle Traverse

That looks great. It would be nice to find another route from the end of Lake Cowichan to Port Alberni as it is a big industrial road and kind of boring. Maybe up to Nanaimo Lakes and connect to Cameron Main though it would likely mean lots of climbing and it doesn't seem to be something people tal...

Van Isle Traverse

So I found this fantastic trip report and immediately thought that this would make for a fantastic informal event..... one of these days. https://forums.mtbr.com/bikepacking-bik ... 79909.html

Re: Tugwell Main smooth or bumpy?

Given the bushwhacking disappointment from Sunday I've revisited the idea of the Tugwell loop in my head. I got a chance to look at the hills while I was up there and there is little to now snow left. Here is what I'm thinking. Any thoughts? https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1020986?units=km

Re: Tugwell Main smooth or bumpy?

I think I found a route that should work for the Tugwell main, if it is snow free. Meanwhile though I found this gem of a loop. The unknown is the linkage to Jack lake and down to the Cory Connector (about 10 km of unknown trail) but the rest would be the Terranova route we already did (with the sec...

Tugwell Main smooth or bumpy?

Has anybody ridden on Tugwell Main in the recent past? I'm thinking of using it as alternative to Butler Main for a ride I'm planning.

Re: May 2 - Ride for Water - Chilliwack

Thanks for the valuable insight Scott. I don't really have a "race" mentality when I ride so it sounds like this event will be a good fit. I could be talked into the Epic if that's what everyone is doing but I will definitely make this an "enjoy the scenery" kinda ride (no drop?...

We're assuming that most of the snow is gone, but that's just a reasonable guess.

Re: Sunday epic?

Markus, I've been planning a similar ride but hoped to hit the dragon trail (as shown in Trail Forks) and connect into the Cobble Hill mountain bike trails. Have you been through there before? https://www.strava.com/routes/23124207 Sorry Ron, I'm not checking the forum often enough. Yes I a have ri...
